Stepping into a dogging course can feel daunting, especially if you’ve had a rocky relationship with classrooms, teachers or maths in the past. But, at Ascent, we pull out all the stops to make sure you have the best learning experience possible. Here’s what you can expect in a dogging course at Ascent Training Solutions.
What theory is involved in getting a dogging ticket?
First up, let’s tackle the biggie: the theory.
A dogging course is about 80% theory and 20% hands-on, but once you’re in the field that split is closer to 1% theory and 99% practical and there are smart phone apps you can use onsite. However, for the purpose of accreditation, we need to see you are competent with manual calculations and understand how it works.
Many students find this the hardest part because they believe that they’re no good at maths, but you really don’t have to be a mathematician to get your licence. So don’t let that put you off.
There are formulas involved, but they’re not complex. We see students every day who weren’t the best at maths in school, but with some practice and study they aced their exam.
We also know that some students have a different learning style, and that’s okay. Our trainers are super patient and flexible with how they explain things. There’s also plenty of opportunity for one-on-one time in the classroom, so if you’re struggling or need more time on a concept/formula, we’ve got your back with the extra help whenever you need it. We will help you get it!
Dogging ticket Brisbane: learn essential safety skills
Apart from calculations, you’ll also learn how to be safe around cranes. You’ll learn the right gear to wear, how to spot potential dangers, how to manage hazards, and the proper ways to handle equipment. Making sure you stay safe.
Dogging licence assessment
As for the testing, there’s a written exam and a practical.
The theory side is a closed-book test with calculations. It’s a written response, there is no multiple choice, but that is exactly what we prepare you for from the beginning of the course.
The practical involves slinging loads with a crane driver and an assessor, just like a real-world situation.
How does a dogging licence prepare me for industry?
We like to think of your licence as a licence to learn. Just as you didn’t know everything about driving when you started on your P’s, you don’t know everything once you’ve got your certificate.
The world’s your oyster after finishing your licence with us, but it’s up to you to keep learning. Always ask questions and be prepared to listen to those who have more experience.
