Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) Funding

What is CSQ funding?

Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) is an independent industry-funded body supporting employers, workers, apprentices and career seekers in the building and construction industry. CSQ contributes towards the cost of courses to reduce the cost to participants. CSQ funding is paid directly to the contracted RTO, generally between 75% and 100% of course costs.

As a Registered Training Organisation and CSQ Supplier, we provide the training and skill development for workers in the Queensland building and construction industry through a range of programs to suit your needs and industry requirements.

Who Is Eligible?

To be eligible for CSQ funding all participants MUST BE;

✓
An Australian or New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident of Australia; Or
✓
a Participant who has the right to work in Australia on a CSQ Approved VISA and has been employed in the Building and Construction Industry for a period of six (6) months or more
AND
✓
Employed Eligible Worker* actively involved in hands on construction work within the Queensland Building and Construction Industry. Or
✓
Unemployed Eligible Worker* for a period of less than 6 (six) months, and previously involved in hands on construction work within the Queensland Building and Construction Industry
Who is an *Eligible Worker?

An Eligible Worker is someone who is currently employed or is a self-employed worker, who can demonstrate primary and substantial direct involvement in:

  • The Queensland building and construction industry doing:
    • Construction, significant renovations and extensions of residential and commercial buildings.
    • Installation services for interiors of residential and commercial buildings in associated trades; electrical, plumbing, flooring etc.
    • Works on a major infrastructure project.
  • The Queensland civil construction industry doing:
    • Land development and site preparation for the purpose of construction.
    • Works for civil infrastructure.
    • Works on a major infrastructure project.
Participants MUST NOT BE;

An Employee of an Authority
×
Currently enrolled and participating in a Queensland secondary school program
×
A contracted trainer or assessor or existing worker of an RTO
×
Funded by an Authority or such other source for delivery of the same training being undertaken as part of the relevant program
×
Funded for more than eight (8) Short Courses under this Program (either in Building and/or Civil and/or Major Contractors) in the same Program period;
×
Participants seeking a Verification of Competency.
BUILDING PROGRAM ONLY

Funded for more than three (3) high risk work (HRW) Units of Competency (excluding Asbestos Units of Competency) in the same Program period.
CIVIL PROGRAM ONLY

Must not be under 15 years old
×
Undertaking the training as part of an apprenticeship or traineeship

Funded for more than three (3) mobile plant operator (MPO) Units of Competency in the same Program period.
Civil Exception - a Participant whose Employer is a Local Council who is undertaking roles which would ordinarily be considered an Eligible Worker.

What courses are Funded?

As a CSQ Supplier for more than 10 years, Ascent Training Solutions continues to support eligible workers in Queensland’s Building and Construction Industry with access to a range of funded training opportunities.

For the 2026/27 Contract Term (1 October 2026 – 30 September 2027), eligible participants may undertake up to eight (8) Units of Competency in total across the three Short Courses Programs: Building, Civil and Major Contractors.

Within the eight-unit allowance, participants may be funded for:

  • A maximum of three (3) Mobile Plant Operator (MPO) Units of Competency; and
  • A maximum of three (3) High Risk Work (HRW) Units of Competency, excluding Asbestos Units of Competency.

Funding is subject to CSQ eligibility requirements, available program funding and individual participant circumstances.
