Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) courses

Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) is an independent industry-funded body supporting employers, workers, apprentices and career seekers in the building and construction industry. CSQ provides a range of subsidised training programs to reduce the cost of training for employers and employees.

As a Registered Training Supplier, we provide the training and skill development for workers in the building and construction industry through a range of programs to suit your needs. For further information on each program please see below.

SHORT COURSES – Civil and General Construction

Industry short courses and high risk work licences (HRWL)

The Short Courses programs through CSQ provide funding to assist with upskilling and cross skilling existing workers in the building and construction industry. Short Courses are individual competencies and skills sets designed to provide flexible solutions to workers wanting to update their skills and knowledge in specific and targeted areas.

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

You must be;

  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen; or
  • a permanent resident of Australia; or
  • a refugee and humanitarian visa holder.

And must be;

  • permanently reside in Queensland; or
  • be permanently employed in Queensland.

+ In addition to the above for the purpose of the Civil/General Program

You must also be;

  • An Eligible Worker; or
  • an Unemployed Eligible Worker.

OR

+ In addition to the above for the purpose of the Apprentice Advance Plus Program

You must also be;

  • a current active Apprentice or Trainee in Queensland undertaking a Recognised Apprenticeship or Traineeship, including an eligible Participant who is working on a Major Project; or
  • an Eligible Worker, including an eligible Participant who is working on a Major Project or an Unemployed Eligible Worker in the first year out of their Recognised Apprenticeship or Traineeship who must commence training within 365 days of the completion date in DELTA; or

a cancelled Apprentice or Trainee who was undertaking a Recognised Apprenticeship or Traineeship that has been cancelled and they are currently accessing State Government funding to complete their institution-based training.

NON ELIGIBLE CRITERIA – (a) currently enrolled and participating in a Queensland secondary school program (excluding a school based Apprentice or Trainee); (b) a contracted trainer or assessor or existing worker of an RTO; (c) funded by an Authority or such other source for delivery of the same Training being undertaken as part of this Program; (d) those Participants seeking a Verification of Competency (or Determination of Competency) services under this Agreement; or (e) other individuals that do not meet Participant Eligibility as prescribed in Item 1 of Schedule 3. (f) General Program ONLY –  An employee of any authority (excluding employees of an indigenous Council that is a Principal Contractor); (g) Civil Program ONLY – previously funded under this Program for three (3) RII mobile plant Short Courses in the same Contract Term; (h) Civil & General ONLY – Eligible under the Apprentice Advance Plus Program.

Short Course – Civil Program

SKILLS ASSESSMENT and GAP TRAINING (SAGT) COURSES – Certificate III Qualifications

The SAGT programs provide training and assessment services to enable existing workers and new entrants to have their skills and experience recognised, and to access gap training required to obtain a nationally recognised building and construction qualification.

 

Under the funding programs, Ascent Training Solutions will identify the skills you already have, and provide the gap training you need to attain a nationally recognised qualification. Students must be able to demonstrate 80% recognition of prior learning (RPL).

 

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

 

You must be;

  • an Eligible Worker; or
  • an Unemployed Eligible Worker; and
  • able to demonstrate RPL experience in 80% or more competencies required to complete the full qualification.

 

 

And must be;

  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen; or
  • a permanent resident of Australia; or
  • a refugee and humanitarian visa holder.

 

And must;

  • permanently reside in Queensland; or
  • be permanently employed in Queensland.

NON ELIGIBLE CRITERIA – (a) SAGT General ONLY An employee of any authority (excluding employees of an indigenous Council that is a principal contractor); (b) an Apprentice or Trainee as defined in the Further Education and Training Act 2014; (c) currently enrolled and participating in a school program; (d) a contracted trainer or assessor or existing worker of an RTO; (e) funded by an Authority or such other source for delivery of the same Training being undertaken as part of this Program; (f) previously funded under this Program in the same Contract Term (g) through direct credit, achieve more than 50% of the minimum number of units required to complete the qualification.

Skills and Gap Training – Civil Program

The maximum funding allocation provided by CSQ for each qualification is $4,875 per participant

The maximum funding allocation provided by CSQ for each qualification is $4,375 per participant

HIGHER LEVEL SKILLS – CIVIL PROGRAM – Certificate IV Qualifications

The Higher Level Skills program is targeted to existing workers in the building and construction industry to assist in career development and is designed to help you gain new skills and knowledge.

 

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

You must be;

  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen; or
  • a permanent resident of Australia; or
  • a refugee and humanitarian visa holder.

 

And must be;

  • permanently reside in Queensland; or
  • be permanently employed in Queensland.

 

+ In addition to the above for the purpose of the Higher Level skills – Civil Program

You must also be;

  • An Eligible Worker including relevant clerical, administration and professional staff whose employer is part of the building and construction industry; or
  • an Unemployed Eligible Worker.

OR

+ In addition to the above for the purpose of the Apprentice Advance Plus Program

You must also be;

  • a current active Apprentice or Trainee in Queensland undertaking a Recognised Apprenticeship or Traineeship, who is in the 3rd or 4th year of their Apprenticeship or Traineeship; or
  • a current active Apprentice or Trainee in Queensland undertaking a Recognised Apprenticeship or Traineeship, who is in the 3rd or 4th year of their Apprenticeship or Traineeship and working on a Major Project; or
  • an Eligible Worker, including an eligible Participant who is working on a Major Project or an Unemployed Eligible Worker in the first year out of their Recognised Apprenticeship or Traineeship who must commence training within 365 days of the completion date in DELTA; or
  • a cancelled Apprentice or Trainee who was in their 3rd or 4th year undertaking a Recognised Apprenticeship or Traineeship that has been cancelled and they are currently accessing State Government funding to complete their institution-based training.

NON ELIGIBLE CRITERIA – (a) Eligible under the CSQ Apprentice Advance + Program; (b) currently enrolled and participating in a QLD secondary school program; (c) a contracted trainer or assessor or existing worker of an RTO; (d) already funded by an Authority or such other source for delivery of the same Training being undertaken as part of this Program; (e) previously funded under this program in the same contract term.

APPRENTICE ADVANCED PROGRAMS

Industry Short courses/High Risk Work Licences (HRWL) and Higher Level Skills Qualification for eligible Apprentices and Trainees

  • a current active Apprentice or Trainee in Queensland undertaking a Recognised Apprenticeship or Traineeship; or
  • an Existing Worker or Unemployed Eligible Worker in the first year out of their Recognised Apprenticeship or Traineeship who must commence training within 365 days of the completion date in DELTA; or
  • a cancelled Apprentice or Trainee who was undertaking a Recognised Apprenticeship or Traineeship that has been cancelled and they are currently accessing State Government funding to complete their institution-based training; or
  • a current active Apprentice or Trainee in Queensland undertaking a Recognised Apprenticeship or Traineeship who is working on a Major Project; or
  • an Existing Worker in the first year out of their Recognised Apprenticeship or Traineeship who must commence training within 365 days of the completion date in DELTA who is working on a Major Project.

NON ELIGIBLE CRITERIA – (a) An employee of any authority (excluding employees of an indigenous Council that is a principal contractor); (b) a contracted trainer or assessor or existing worker of an RTO; (c) already funded by an Authority or such other source for delivery of the same training being undertaken as part of this Program; (e) (Short Courses only) Previously funded under this program for (Civil) five (5) or (General) eight (8) short courses in the same funding period; (f) (Higher Level Skills only) Previously funded under this program for the same program period or enrolled in a qualification they have previously completed.

Definitions:

 *An Existing Worker is a current Employee in the Building and Construction Industry who has a one month or more employment relationship with their Employer. The working relationship can be built up through full-time, part-time or casual employment or engagement as a contract worker.

*An Eligible Worker has the same meaning as the Building and Construction Industry (Portable Long Services Leave) Act 1991 (Qld) as amended from time to time.

*An Unemployed Eligible Worker is a person who has been unemployed for a period of not greater than 4 years that would otherwise meet the requirements of an Eligible Worker.

*A Career Seeker is an individual with significant previous experience, skills and knowledge within the Building and Construction Industry, but is not an Existing Worker

ELIGIBILITY

Candidates must:

Eligibility for unemployed workers is available in the Short Course and Higher-Level Skills Programs. Candidates must meet the requirement of an eligible worker and be unemployed for no longer that 6 months. Evidence of unemployment is required.
