Course overview

This course is designed to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge required to operate a tower crane safely and effectively, fulfilling the requirements for licensing. Tower cranes come in various configurations, including luffing boom or hammerhead type jib, as well as boom/jib cranes mounted on a tower structure, which can be demountable or permanent. The course encompasses both hammerhead and luffing jib types, ensuring comprehensive coverage of crane operations.

Participants will learn the fundamental principles of tower crane operation, including but not limited to, safety procedures, equipment familiarisation, operating techniques, load management, communication skills, emergency procedures, maintenance and inspection, and regulatory compliance.

By the end of the course, participants will have demonstrated competency in operating a tower crane safely and efficiently.

Delivery of this course is completed face-to face with a mix of classroom-based theory training and hands on practical training.

To be eligible for this course, participants must be 18 years of age or older and have basic English literacy (reading and writing). Three forms of eligible ID are required at enrolment, on the first day of your course, and on the day of assessment. Acceptable forms of ID are outlined here.

Where can I get my Tower Crane ticket in Brisbane?

Ascent Training Solutions delivers the Tower Crane (CT) ticket at our purpose-built training facility in Richlands, Brisbane. Our CPCCLTC4001 course is a nationally recognized unit. You can view the full curriculum and assessment requirements on Training.gov.au here.

Are there any prerequisites for the Tower Crane course?

No prior experience or specific prior qualifications are required for the Tower Crane course, although it is highly recommended to complete your DG ticket first. You must be 18 years or older, have basic English literacy, and bring three forms of eligible evidence of identity (EOI). Study materials are provided on the day.

What does the Tower Crane course cover?

The Tower Crane course covers the operation of jib or boom cranes mounted on a tower structure – both horizontal and luffing jib types – whether demountable or permanent. It does not cover self-erecting tower cranes, which require a separate licence (CS class). Tower cranes are commonly used in high-rise construction, infrastructure and major development projects.

Is Tower Crane operation in demand in Queensland?

Yes – tower crane operators are in strong demand across Queensland, particularly in Brisbane where a major construction pipeline is underway including Olympic infrastructure for the 2032 Brisbane Games. A CT licence opens opportunities in high-rise residential, commercial and infrastructure construction.

Is there a fee to apply for my High Risk Work Licence after the course?

Yes – after successfully completing the course, you apply directly to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) for your HRWL. There is an additional government fee payable to WHSQ for the licence application. You must apply within 60 days of completing your assessment with Ascent Training Solutions.

I recently completed training with Accent Training Solutions, and it was honestly one of the best RTO experiences I’ve had. The facilities are brand new and purpose-built, which makes a big difference when you’re trying to focus and get the most out of the course. The team were extremely friendly and approachable, and they went out of their way to make sure I fully understood everything being taught. They didn’t just rush through the material—they took the time to ensure everyone was confident and competent. The trainers are a great bunch of guys who all work really well together, which creates a positive and easy-going learning environment. We had constant showers of rain throughout the week, which meant the lads stayed back and made sure everything still got covered properly. It really showed their professionalism and commitment. I passed the Dogmans, C6 (60 tonne slew crane) Dozer, Roller and Tele handler course's/ tickets recently. The Training and assessment team on-site are brilliant. The course's are conducted in a safe, educational and fun way. The staff have fair but firm control over trainee groups in both theory and practical lessons. Highly recommended by me. My tutors Robbie (vehicle loading crane) and Mark and Gerry (Dogman) were awesome they made the whole experience worthwhile. I had the privilege to sit my dogman ticket at Ascent training. Was under the tutelage of Theo and Irish Mark for theory and practical. At first glance the theory assessment was daunting and intimidating but with Theo’s tutoring and knowledge also mixed with his awesome people skills and being able to relate the questions to scenarios or situations that were easier to understand and answer made the theory side of the course a lot easier than expected. Theo also took time during classes to help guide the students who weren’t ‘book’ learners. Theo doing that made the students who struggled understand easier and were able to grasp a hold of the course. Irish Mark was awesome his enthusiasm when out on the floor was great but also his ability to teach the class in a calmer way that we understood easier. If any of us were struggling in each way Mark was able to give us little ‘tips and tricks’ that we could try and made it easier to understand in our own way. I also came across Jerry who was helping instruct with our practical dogman course. Jerry was also awesome and was able to also give tips and tricks that made it easier to grasp the concepts of what we were struggling with at the time. Theo, Irish Mark and Jerry. Absolutely appreciate and am really grateful to have crossed paths and been under your guys wings the last week. Kevin, top facilities and awesome compound. Highly recommended.
