Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I do my Rigid Haul Truck course in Brisbane?
Ascent Training Solutions delivers the Rigid Haul Truck course (RIIMPO338E) at our purpose-built training facility in Richlands, Brisbane. Workplace delivery is also available on request. You can view the full curriculum and assessment requirements on Training.gov.au here.
What does the Rigid Haul Truck course cover?
The Rigid Haul Truck course (RIIMPO338E) is nationally recognised training that gives participants the comprehensive skillset needed to safely and confidently operate a rigid haul truck in the construction or mining industry. The course covers pre and post operational checks, risk assessment, control measures, and driving and manoeuvring techniques for navigating challenging site conditions. Training is delivered face-to-face with a mix of classroom theory and hands-on practical. Verification of Competency (VOC) is also available for those with existing experience.
What is the difference between a rigid haul truck and an articulated haul truck?
A rigid haul truck has a fixed chassis with no articulation point – it is a larger, non-bending vehicle typically used in mining and large-scale earthworks where conditions allow. An articulated haul truck has a pivot joint between the cab and the body, making it more suited to uneven terrain and tighter sites. Each machine requires its own separate unit of competency. If you operate both, you will need to be assessed on each individually.
Do I need a licence to operate a rigid haul truck?
No High Risk Work Licence is required to operate a rigid haul truck. However, you must hold a recognised unit of competency – RIIMPO338E – to demonstrate you can operate the machine safely and in line with industry standards. Most employers and principal contractors require this as a minimum before allowing unsupervised operation on site.
What do I receive on completion of the Rigid Haul Truck course?
On successful completion you will receive a Statement of Attainment for RIIMPO338E issued by Ascent Training Solutions, along with an operator card. These are your proof of competency and what you’ll present to employers and site supervisors.
