Did you know?

White card QLD must include a face-to-face component

Online white card training is not valid in Queensland. State regulations require a face-to-face training component, which means fully online courses are not accepted for work on Queensland construction sites. In addition, Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) must only deliver General Construction Induction Training (GCIT) to students who are physically located in Queensland at the time of training.

Some providers deliver sessions via Teams, Skype, or Zoom. At Ascent, we believe nothing replaces on-site, in-classroom, hands-on learning at our Richlands facility. Our experienced trainers bring real-world construction knowledge into the classroom, giving you the skills and confidence to step onto site safely and work-ready.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question about our White Card course? Find your answer below.
Is online white card training valid in Queensland?

No. Queensland regulations require a face-to-face component as part of white card training. Any course delivered entirely online, regardless of where it is advertised, is not compliant for the issuance of a Queensland General Construction Induction Training (GCIT) Card/White Card. At Ascent, all training is delivered in-person at our Richlands facility.

Is the Queensland white card valid in other states?

Yes. Your white card is nationally recognised and accepted across all Australian states and territories. If you relocate or take on work interstate, your Queensland-issued card remains valid. Some sites may require additional site-specific inductions, but your white card is the foundational requirement everywhere in the country.

Does a white card expire?

No. Your white card does not have an expiry date. Once you earn it, it remains valid for your entire career, provided there are no significant changes to safety legislation that require retraining. Keep your physical card in a safe place and take photos of both sides as a backup.

Who needs a white card in Queensland?

Anyone who works on or enters a construction site needs a white card. This includes labourers, apprentices, tradespeople, site supervisors, engineers, architects, surveyors, inspectors, and delivery drivers accessing active sites. If there is any chance your role will take you onto a construction site, you need one.

What is the difference between a white card and a site-specific induction?

Your white card is your foundational, nationally recognised construction safety qualification. It is required before you can set foot on any construction site in Queensland. A site-specific induction is an additional briefing run by individual sites or employers, covering hazards and procedures particular to that worksite. You typically need both: the white card first, then the site induction when you start at a new location.

Can I do my white card training as part of a group or corporate booking?

Yes. Ascent Training Solutions can accommodate group bookings for businesses, labour hire companies, and training coordinators. Contact our team to discuss scheduling and group pricing.

What do I need to bring on the day?

Bring the following to your white card training session:

  • Three (3) forms of eligible Evidence of Identity, including one photo ID such as a driver licence or passport
  • Your USI (Unique Student Identifier). If you do not have one, create it free at usi.gov.au before your training day
  • Steel-capped boots and comfortable clothing
  • Basic English literacy and comprehension — this is required to complete the assessment
