Frequently Asked Questions

Got a question about the C6 Crane course? Find your answer below.

Where can I get my C6 Slewing Crane Ticket in Brisbane?

Ascent Training Solutions delivers the TLILIC0023 Licence to operate a slewing mobile crane – up to 60 tonnes (C6) Ticket at our purpose-built training facility in Richlands, Brisbane. Our C6 course is a nationally recognized unit. You can view the full curriculum and assessment requirements on Training.gov.au here.

What are the prerequisites for the C6 Slewing Crane course?

No prior experience or specific prior qualifications are required for the C6 Slewing Crane course although it is highly recommended to complete your DG ticket first. You need to be 18 years or older, have basic English literacy, and bring three forms of eligible evidence of identity (EOI). Day 5 is your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) assessment.

What does the C6 Slewing Crane Licence allow me to operate?

The C6 High Risk Work Licence allows you to operate slewing mobile cranes with a Maximum Rated Capacity (MRC) of up to 60 tonnes. It is also an encompassing licence – meaning your C6 automatically covers you to operate vehicle loading cranes (CV), non-slewing mobile cranes over 3 tonnes (CN), reach stackers (RS), and slewing mobile cranes up to 20 tonnes (C2). You effectively get five licence classes in one, making it the most practical entry point for a career in crane operation.

What is the difference between C2, C6, C1 and C0 crane licences?

The licence classes relate to the Maximum Rated Capacity (MRC) of the crane. C2 covers slewing mobile cranes up to 20 tonnes, C6 covers up to 60 tonnes, C1 covers up to 100 tonnes, and C0 covers over 100 tonnes. Each higher class also encompasses the classes below it – so a C0 holder can operate everything a C6 or C2 holder can. Ascent Training Solutions recommends the C6 as the best entry point for most new crane operators.

Is there a government fee to apply for my C6 crane licence after the course?

Yes – after successfully completing the course, you apply directly to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) for your HRWL. There is an additional government fee payable to WHSQ for the licence application. You must apply within 60 days of completing your assessment with Ascent Training Solutions.
