Course overview

The Basic Rigging course is designed to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge required to perform a variety of rigging tasks safely and efficiently across diverse industrial settings. As part of this course, students will learn about the fundamental principles of rigging operations, moving, placing, and securing loads, steel erection, material and mast-climber hoists, placement of pre-cast concrete, safety nets, cantilever crane loading platforms (CCLP), static lines and perimeter safety screens and shutters.

By the end of the Basic Rigging course, participants will have demonstrated competency in performing basic rigging duties safely and efficiently. They will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to contribute effectively to rigging operations in their respective industries while prioritising safety at all times.

Delivery of this course is completed face-to face with a mix of classroom-based theory training and hands on practical training.

To be eligible for this course, participants must be 18 years of age or older and have basic English literacy (reading and writing). Three forms of eligible ID are required at enrolment, on the first day of your course, and on the day of assessment. Acceptable forms of ID are outlined here.

Where can I get my Basic Rigging Ticket in Brisbane and what are the course requirements?

Ascent Training Solutions delivers the Basic Rigging (RB) Ticket at our purpose-built training facility in Richlands, Brisbane. Our CPCCLRG3001 course is a nationally recognized unit. You can view the full curriculum and assessment requirements on Training.gov.au here. You need to be 18 years or older, have basic English literacy, and bring three forms of eligible evidence of identity (EOI).

Do I need a Dogging Ticket before Basic Rigging, and what’s the difference?

Yes – Dogging is a mandatory prerequisite. This requirement may be met by either the successful completion of the unit CPCCLDG3001 Licence to perform dogging or holding a valid DG licence. If you don’t hold your DG yet, Ascent delivers the Dogging course weekly at our Richlands facility. A Basic Rigger can do everything a Dogman can, directing crane operators and slinging loads, plus erect structural steel, install hoists and mast climbers, place pre-cast concrete, erect safety nets and static lines, set up perimeter safety screens and shutters, and work with cantilevered crane loading platforms.

Can I progress to Intermediate Rigging after completing Basic?

Yes – CPCCLRG3001 Licence to perform rigging basic level is the prerequisite for CPCCLRG3002 Licence to perform rigging intermediate level. Once you hold your Basic Rigging HRWL you can enrol in Intermediate Rigging to extend your skills to tilt slabs, dual lifts, demolition rigging, and crane erection. Ascent Training Solutions delivers all three rigging levels.

Is there a fee to apply for my High Risk Work Licence after the course?

Yes – after successfully completing the course, you apply directly to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) for your HRWL. There is an additional government fee payable to WHSQ for the licence application. You must apply within 60 days of completing your assessment with Ascent Training Solutions.

Does Ascent offer accommodation and airport pickup for students?

Yes, on-site accommodation is available at our Richlands facility for regional students – subject to availability. Interstate students and regional Queenslanders can also arrange Brisbane airport pickup and drop-off. Contact us early to secure a spot.
